There are times in my life when I have replayed certain scenarios to help me understand a situation. At other times it’s because I can’t help myself. I get stuck on the replay switch and the consequences of that set in.
Fear and negativity are so easily spread especially with the help of social media. And like it or not, disappointments and failures are natural parts of life, so we must learn to flip the switch when we find ourselves stuck on negative and fear inducing scripts and narratives.

On a recent trip, I found that I had a choice to live in fear or trust and believe in the best outcome for me.
One choice would have left me paralysed and unable to get my job done and the other one meant I could have some peace of mind while getting on with my life.
I had no choice but to flip the switch that turned my fears into faith.
I reminded myself that I was loved and protected by hands more powerful than my fears.
I have seen people who seem to only have a negative outlook on life and they pretty much have their switch stuck on that mindset.

I wish I could flip a switch that would change their entire outlooks on life and help them take more responsibilities for their own actions.
Sadly I can’t make it happen for them but I can call their attention to it.
We must take individual responsibility to flip the switches in our lives that need to be flipped.
My challenge to us as we start another week is to ponder the following:
- What does your script say about you?
- Are you telling yourself you are a failure because of past mistakes?
- Is your script saying you are not worthy or good enough?
- Does your narrative remind you only of the bad experiences of your life?
- Is your script about something hurtful that was said or done to you as a child or ages ago?
- Is your current script saying there’s no way out and that life is not worth living?

Any script that is not building you up, encouraging and edifying you, any thought that is not pure and steeped in the truth of God’s unconditional love for you is one that needs to be changed.
So make a choice today to flip the switch and change your script.
Start by seeing yourself through the eyes of your Creator and not through your circumstances or past failures.
Make a decision to think at least three positive thoughts for every negative one that comes to mind. Be grateful for three things for every disappointment you feel and remind yourself of three wonderful accomplishments for every mistake or failure.
It’s not so hard to flip the switch and turn the tables on negativity, fear and regret.
The hardest part is making the choice to flip the switch. It gets easier once you’ve made that choice as it simply becomes a matter of practicing your choice.
The more you practice, the better you get and soon you will find that you’re able to flip the switch the instant you catch yourself spiralling into that negative place.

There’s been an increase in suicide rates and I can’t help but think that some people find themselves stuck in that place of hopelessness where they don’t see a way out and their replay button is stuck on their current circumstances and feelings.
So my ask is that we be our brother’s keeper. If someone around you appears stuck in that place, take time to get involved.
You might not be able to flip their switch but you could call their attention to the switch or help them lift their heads for a brief moment so they can see something other than their present realities.
You can interrupt their replay with a smile, a kind word, a meal out, or a conversation which could end up being the difference between life and death.
Flip your switch and help others to flip theirs too. Thanks for reading my post. Please comment and share with others. See you next week.
